11-1-05 - A string of auto burglaries in Ada may be the work of children, organized by a young woman. Police arrested 23-year-old Whitney Shaw on charges of 2nd-degree burglary and possession of stolen property. They say she would recruit 9 to 12-year-old children to break into vehicles, stealing the contents inside.
Many of those auto burglaries happened at the Oakhurst Apartments off Arlington Street. The break in the case happened late last week when one of those juveniles finally contacted police. She said Shaw called the crimes “car hopping”.
The kids stole everything from car radios to student ID's. On Friday, Ada authorities searched Shaw's home in Roff and found several of those items. So far they've linked them back to seven burglaries.
Authorities say more charges could be pending.
