11-2-05 - Police are investigating the theft of a Colbert School Bus. It was found dumped on the rocks at the Denison Dam.
Some think that whoever took the bus tried to dump it into the water, but the thieves drove the bus down the road past a clearing that leads to the water and onto the rocks.
Someone spotted the bus just after 10 p.m. Tuesday night. Originally, authorities were worried students were on the bus because buses were out with some student activities, but that just wasn't the case. No one was on the bus and no one was hurt.
The bus eventually pulled off the rocks and was driven back to the school.
It was hardly damaged, and, in fact, it was used for its regular route Wednesday morning.
"Every once in a while you would have someone mess with the first aid kit, but they didn't get anything which is strange," Colbert Superintendent Jarvis Dobbs said. "Fortunately, they didn't tear anything up."
The bus was taken from Colbert's bus barn sometime between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday night. The driver actually left the keys in the ignition, and when KXII talked with Police Wednesday morning, they have surveillance video from inside the bus.
Those cameras start recording every time the key turns in the ignition, and they believe that the video will help crack this case. Police say they have some possible suspects.
