11-14-05 - Choctaw County officials caputured the man who was the target of a manhunt since Sunday at 10pm. It began after the Texas man opened fire on a Choctaw County patrol car.

The deputy spotted Stephen Dewayne Allen and Monica Lynn Velasquez around 10pm Sunday night, parked under the Muddy Boggy Creek bridge on highway 109 in Choctaw County. When the deputy discovered Allen was violating parole for theft and criminal trespass, he called for backup.

But before they arrived, the deputy says Allen hit the gas and tried to run him over, then fired shots as his car with a rifle, hitting it 4 times.

A 2nd deputy returned fire and a chase ensued, with Allen firing at the lawmen as he turned onto county road 4160.

The man and woman jumped out at the end of the road, and fled on foot.

Lawmen searched the area overnight, and found Velasquez hiding in a barn around 8am Monday. She had a wound to the shoulder, likely sustained in the shootout from flying glass and shrapnel.

Allen was caught around 3pm near the state line.
