ARDMORE, OK -- Two people have been arrested on counterfeiting charges in Ardmore.
Wednesday afternoon Andrew Long and Michael Williams were booked into the Carter County Jail charged with counterfeiting and uttering forged instruments.
Sergeant Ryan Hunnicutt says over the last couple weeks several store clerks have received counterfeit twenty dollar bills.
Hunnicutt says counterfeiting can carry a stiff punishment.
Hunnincutt said, "It is a very severe crime. it's taken very seriously. It can be prosecuted both at the state and the federal level and the penalties are certainly not worth the 15 or 16 dollars in change that these people are getting."
Sergeant Hunicutt says Ardmore Police believe the fake bills were being made locally.
