Bank Robbery in Ardmore

12-2-05 - A bank robbery occurred in Ardmore Friday morning, and police are still searching for the suspect.

Ardmore Police are calling this an unusual bank robbery. Not only did the thief rob a grocery store bank, but he did it right before lunch at one of their busiest times.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. Police say a man walked up to the bank teller and handed her a note. It stated he was armed and demanded money. The robber then left just as calm as when he came in.

Most in the store including those at the bank didn't even know what had happened until they shut down the bank moments later.

"Most of those working were just standing there, they couldn't believe it happened," witness Rick Lacoss said. "They were just checking out people and just going about their business when the cops came in and started putting up tape around the bank."

Police do have surveillance video of the suspect, and plan to release still photographs to the media soon.

The suspect is described as an African-American man with an approximate height of five feet three inches. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and baggy jeans. Police say he left on foot from the store heading South.
