12-8-05 - This year's Toys for Tots drive in Carter County has more children already on the list than ever before, and this year new families in teh area need the help.
For the last week, Carter County Toys for Tots has been inundated with phone calls as folks look to sign up their kids. Sometimes they have taken 40 to 50 calls in one day.
This year, more and more families calling in are those that were displaced by hurricane Katrina, and right now the number of toys won't be enough for every child on the list.
"This one family got displaced from Louisiana and they have nothing except the clothes on their back," Toys for Tots Receptionist Julie Phillips said. "They want to have a Christmas for their children since they had a horrible time dealing with the hurricane."
Carter County will start handing out their toys on December 19th, and they need every age group of toys from infant to 18 years old.
You can drop those toys off at our station in Ardmore off of South Commerce and Highway 70.
