12-9-05 - Sherman police have released the identities of two officers involved in the shooting of an armed suspect moments after a high speed chase ended on Thursday. Steve Northington, a four year veteran, and Steven Dean, a two year veteran were the only officers to discharge their weapons.
Both officers are currently assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division and investigate felony crimes as a part of their normal responsibilities
The shooting happened mid-afternoon at a convenience store at FM 1417 and US 75. Officers said 21-year-old Bobby Lee Murphy was reaching for a shotgun as he ran from his car. Both officers opened fire, wounding Murphy. He is still in critical condition.
Murphy was wanted for parole violations. Officers recognized his car, but when he refused to pull over, a chase ensued with speeds of up to 95mph on US 75.
