12-10-05 - DALLAS (AP) - A truck driver escaped unhurt today when his diesel tanker erupted in flames on a Dallas thoroughfare.
Flames and thick black smoke could be seen several miles away when the truck went up in flames shortly after 9 a.m.
Traffic was shut down on the President George Bush Turnpike in both directions. Nearby homes and businesses were evacuated.
Truck driver Lincoln Porter of Dallas told authorities that he noticed one of his back tires had blown out and caught fire.
He stopped the truck on the shoulder and got out before the entire truck erupted in flames.
The truck was carrying more than seven-thousand gallons of diesel fuel.
Dallas Fire and Rescue officials put out the fire, but parts of the road remained closed today.
