BOSWELL, Okla. -- Police in Boswell say they are infuriated over a recent rape case involving a teenager. They say this crime has not only affected the victim but many other residents of the small town.

A rape of any kind is awful, but the facts of this particular case have police warning the public this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

Boswell police say sometime between 9 p.m. and midnight on Sunday night, a 14-year-old girl was abducted from a street in Boswell in western Choctaw County. Police say her attackers took her to the baseball fields in town, and between one to three people raped her there.

The victim later called a friend who notified police.

Police say the victim was visiting family in Boswell and was walking from one relative's house to another.

The suspect is thought to be an acquaintance.

"They should stay on alert. Be aware of their surroundings, perception of what's around them is a big thing and just because you know somebody, maybe you really don't know them," Boswell police Chief Todd Farrell said.

Police say the attackers could also be minors, but they are working on all leads. They have applied for a grant that would provide another police officer to focus on domestic violence and sexual assault to bring more awareness and prevention in the future.

"Perception is a big thing. Just because you think you know someone doesn't mean you do" Go have another Dougnut Todd. I'm surprised your forked tongue has got you where you are. One day you will slip up and be held accountable for your actions! Don't think that badge will hide you either. Karma will beseech you Todd Farell!

I have family in Boswell. Who eer said it was a good place to live has a problem. Boswell is nothing but trouble and always has been and nothing is going to change that. There is nothing for the children of Boswell to do to keep them out of trouble. As for Todd, he is doing his job to the best of abilities that is allowed to him. Boswell has never been able to keep an officer because most of them wont bow down to the town or the ones who try to run it. Its funny a few years ago one of the officers went to jail over pot that was his own. That is what runs Boswell...........

you should know all the facts before you report to the public

If they need more man power and more money this or these people better get more than probation, of course the case will leave the county mark my word. If he had a joint in his mouth, they would have already found him or them.

You people are nuts! It doesn't matter if this CHILD was walking down the street naked, rape is rape. Rape is not a sexual act, it is a violent crime! I agree, we should know our kids friends and where they are at all times.

Boswell is a great place to raise your kids.We chose it for our kids and part of our grandkids are being raised here. How do parents help protect their kids when information like this is kept secret? Todd did not tell the community--the crime tape was obvious but no one knew what had happened. A lot could have happened from Sat. - Tues. until channel 12 reported it. You all need to know some more of our Chief's story---just since he's been here. The law suits that have been filed on him. His crimes are as bad or worse than the criminals he has arrested. He belongs in jail with the rest of the criminals! As someone stated this is Homecoming Weekend.I think we will make the news again but this time it will be Todd killing or severely maiming someone who may be guilty of a crime or an innocent victim.

Back in the late 60's, I was raped by a Boswell man and kept my mouth shut because I was scared by his threats and like this little girl, some people won't believe your story. It is true. Boswell was a ruff town then and I believe sill is. I'm glad the young lady came forward. Honey, it is NOT your fault.Boswell needs MORE protection on the their streets.

I agree with FOZZY - I am in no position to try and convict someone based on one side of the story. We, as a society, are quick to judge and convict someone before they are ever given a chance. If the ALLEGED act did take place, then yes, those responsible should be held accountable for their actions. If the ALLEGED act didn't happen as reported, then that party should be held accountable. The sad part is these are kids. What does that say about us as parents?

the sad thing is anymore you don't know if it's true or not people put their selves in a position and afterwards get to thinking about it and then run file charges. Alot of lives are ruined. the sad thing is she had no business being out alone walking down the streets at that hour!

Go get'em Todd!

I live in this town and play ball at this field. This is a rough little town and bad things happen, same as any other town. The people that did this need to be punished. As for every one else we need to use good judgment when allowing kids to be away from home. Check with other parents, take the time to walk your kids to friends houses. Call and make sure they get there. Give time frames and be specific. There is no ways to change what happened, but we can control the future. With homecoming this weekend there will surely be more news to report. Lets make it good.

Ahh.. good comeback. If something like this happened to my daughter, I'd especially not want the voyeurs in the community and the media licking their chops and acting as the judge, jury and executioner. I know my daughter very well and talk to her daily. This is something that most parent fail to do anymore, they don't know their children's friends and they usually don't even know their whereabouts. When I go out into the community, I see many more girls and boys for that matter out there acting and doing things that they should not be doing. People allow their children access to too many bad influences and it sometimes bite people. I'm all for frying these boys if they are guilty. but it is up to the legal system to dictate to what degree that people are punished and to what degree of responsibility both parties bear. We have seen what happens when the media gets to decide what happened.. from the Duke "rape" case to the Olympic bombing situation.. t

Fozzy, what if this happened to your daughter?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Hugo on Jun 25, 2008 at 09:56 AM
My heart goes out to the girl and her family. This should be a warning to all parents. Our children need to know that most rapest are not strangers. Also, she was one block from home when abducted.

hummmmmmmmmm. sounds fishy to me.

Wise up people! We live in a crummy world where things are not always what they seem to be. Was there an attack? possibly.. Does this mean that for sure there was an attack? maybe not! None of the names really need to be in the paper nor does there automatically mean that there was a rape. How many time are there cases of false charges that get put directly on the front pages where there was no crime ever committed? I really get tired of cases being tried and settled in the newspapers and the media before anyone has seen a courtroom or the facts have even been gathered. There are a lot of clues in the story that tell me that there was more left out than was told. There seems to be a little obfuscation / panhandling by the police department involved for this grant.

Michael have you just lost your mind..OMG if you don't want you daughter to hear what is going on then don't let her watch the new... Your the parent in the matter... Turn off the TV. What happen to the little girl is bad and it should alert everyone what is out there.. they didn't state anyones name nor did they convict anyone.. Its the news maybe since they have aired it this would stop another little girl from being RAPED.....To be honest with you just watching TV the word RAPE is on there alot...So maybe you should just not let her watch TV or maybe just the new.....

Posted by: Stacey Location: Southmayd on Jun 25, 2008 at 07:50 AM
Micheal, it's up to you to monitor what your daughter watches. If your worried about having to explain what rape means to her then she shouldn't be watching the news. The news is where they describe the bad stuff that happens around your world. As for the poor child that this happened to, she will have to live with the emotional scars the rest of her life. My heart goes out to this poor baby.

Posted by: Mom Location: OK on Jun 25, 2008 at 07:48 AM
Michael, you need to explain such things to your daughter anyway. If she doesn't know it could happen, she is more likely to become a victim. I am a mother of a 14 year old daughter and I for one want to know if something like this is going on. My daughter needs to know that these things can happen, how to avoid it, and what to call it if it does. We are not going to get anywhere hiding our heads under the sand and pretending these things don't exist.

I KNOW IF IT WAS MY DAUGHTER THE HEADLINE WOULD BE 1-3 MEN IN THE GROUND ANOTHER OFF TO PRISON

Posted by: Peter Cedarstacker Location: Sherman on Jun 24, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Michael- a story about a rape (or whatever you want to call it) is hardly sensationalizing, esp when the local police are more than willing to talk about it. Did you see that guy's interview? They didn't convict anybody with the story either- they alerted a community that an attack happened. I guess if they're going to use another term, 'attack' would be appropriate- but it wouldn't tell the whole story, would it? Nope. Why blame her for your daughter hearing about rape during the news? It's not the first time 'rape' has made the news, and it's probably not going to be the last. If you're looking for something to tell your daughter- then tell her that some bad people hurt a young girl, and the police are looking for them. You don't have to go into gorry detail to educate your kids.

I know you cannot release the young lady's name, I wanted to say: my heart goes out to you sweety. I'm so sorry something like this has happened, you don't deserve it.

FIND THESE LOW DOWN DIRT BAGS AND PUT THEM IN PRISON FOR LIFE WITH A CHANCE OF NO PAROLE EVER PLUS CUT THEIR D---- OFF SO THAT THEY WILL NEVER HAVE A CHANCE TO USE IT EVER AGAIN.

my heart goes out to this girl!!

Posted by: Michael Smith Location: Sherman on Jun 24, 2008 at 07:04 PM
Emi, why do you feel it's important to tell us a 14yr old girl was raped? It doesn't help anyone (probably hurts hide the victim's identity) and is most assuredly written to sensationalize a story. Also, do we need the word 'rape'? Do I have to explain to my daughter what 'rape' is while we watch the evening newscast? Finally, you say nobody has been arrested...ergo, there's been no conviction, but you've done a fine job of convicting a suspect of rape. I guess right to trial isn't something your concerned with (not to mention the possibilty the story the girl tells may be made up). Show some responsibility in your reporting.
