A combination of very strong winds, falling temperatures and frozen precipitation will make Wednesday and Wednesday night dangerous for motorists. Freezing rain and sleet will change to snow before ending late Wednesday or early Thursday. Wind chills of 5 to 10 degrees...with air temperatures in the low 20s...can be expected. Roads will be icy Thursday morning but should melt during the day as skies clear and temperatures rise above freezing.
1-4-06 - As fires threatened local homes, many people had to leave beloved pets behind as they evacuated to safety. Now some are concerned their dogs or cats have been lost.
The Durant animal control center says they have picked up a few more strays than normal. And making things for difficult, Bryan County does not have an animal control officer. The Achille volunteer fire department has stepped up and saved several pets that were displaced in the fires. The good news is that most of the pets have been returned to their owners.
The Red River SPCA has set up a hotline for anyone who is missing a pet in the Cooke County area. Contact them at 940-668-6714 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
