1-1-06 - OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma's governor says the "danger is not over" from wildfires hitting his state as well as neighboring Texas and New Mexico.
Governor Brad Henry says today was "very challenging" as hot wind fanned dozens of grass fires threatening homes across his state. And he says the forecast isn't bringing much relief for the parched state.
A big fire ate some structures in northeast Oklahoma City tonight. The fire also forced dozens of residents to flee. Fire officials say it's mostly contained now.
Texas is struggling with at least 20 fires, including an eight-thousand-acre blaze about 125 miles west of Dallas. It has already razed three homes and threatens another 200.
New Mexico officials have evacuated a nursing home, casino, community college and several neighborhoods near the Texas border.
