1-3-06 - A group of 68 students and 3 professors from Austin College will be packing up their tools for college credit, as they head south to do their part in assisting with the continuing Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
As New Orleans is still trying to recover from the devastating damage left behind by Katrina, these students will help by spending 18 days building homes with Habitat for Humanity, tending to displaced animals, and helping various charity organizations clean up the ravaged city.
Students will be collecting donations for their trip at the Sherman Wal-Mart from 4 to 9 Wednesday evening. Students are asking for items such as hammers and nails, drills and saws, all types of cleaning supplies, and safety goggles.
Each student paid $550 to go on the trip and at the same time will be receiving credit for this trip. They depart on Thursday.
