1-10-06 - As energy bills skyrocket this winter, many Texans are finally turning to an option they’ve had for four year – choosing their electric provider.
High natural gas and fuel prices have caused electricity bills to double in many households. But across the state, 74% of residential customers remain with TXU Energy since deregulation took effect.
The Public Utility Commission has made comparing prices easier than ever. The state run website powertochoose.org allows you to punch in your website and then check prices based on kilowatt hours offered by electric companies in your area. Monthly base charges, contract terms and rate changes are also there.
Not all Texans can select an alternative electric provider - check with your provider for additional information.
