Mercy Memorial Plans Expansion

1-17-06 - Ardmore commissioners approved a new addition to Mercy Memorial Hospital tonight.

The hospital plans to expand even more by 2010, building on a new patient wing tower. It will hold 150 more rooms that will be bigger and private.

This year the hospital will also start building a new office building which will bring in another 35 doctors. The hospital says both are needed to make Mercy more competitive since new hospitals are being built in Denton and in Norman.

Bobby Thompson, Mercy Memorial President and CEO, says, "We feel a bit of urgency now. We thought we were competitive at the time, but now we want to get both of these built as soon as possible."

The project will cost the hospital around $60 million to build. They plan to finance part of it and relay on donations for the rest.
