OSHA Fines Ardmore Company

1-23-06 - The Dollar General distribution center in Ardmore has been fined by a federal agency for key violations that led to the death of an employee. Dale McFatridge was working in hot conditions when he died of heat exhaustion back in August.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration found some key violations last summer at the warehouse, including employees who weren't taking enough breaks or getting enough water in the middle of the summer. At times, they were working in temperatures as high as 103 degrees.

The 42-year-old worker was a temporary employee in just his 2nd day on the job. OSHA investigators also found that after the death, two other employees were rushed to the hospital with heat exhaustion less than a week later.

Dollar General will have to pay OSHA $7,000 in fines. The company released a statement today, stating the heath and safety of their employees is extremely important to them and they are reviewing OSHA’s findings and will respond to their requests.
