Teen Work Hours under Fire

1-29-06 - OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Some lawmakers are hoping to increase the state's high school graduation rate by introducing legislation that would limit the amount of hours a teenager can work.

The bill by Oklahoma City Democrat Rebecca Hamilton would allow teens under the age of 18 to work only three hours on a school day and eight hours on a non-school day.

The bill would restrict work to 18 hours per week when school is in session and 40 hours per week when school is out.

Hamilton says the legislation would make it easier for children who must support their families to finish high school.
