1-29-06 – More Oklahoma counties have been added to a federal disaster declaration for wildfires. The declaration will allow individuals and businesses to apply for federal aid that includes grants to help pay for temporary housing and home repairs. Some serious losses and medical expenses could also be covered.
Stephens County was announced about two weeks ago. Now, residents in Bryan, Carter, Choctaw, Murray, Pittsburg, and Pontotoc counties are also eligible.
FEMA is offering assistance in the form of low interest loans as well.
Applicants can find out more by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA. Applicants must have a phone number and address, social security number, a list of damages and losses. Those with insurance must have their policy number or company’s name.
The FEMA hotline will be answered between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. – seven days a week.
Officials say it could take up to six months to receive full funding.
