OHP Advancing In Technology

2-6-06- The four most remote unites of the OHP now have a clear line of communication directly to patrol cars via mobile data terminals.

Southeastern Oklahoma terrain often breaks up radio frequencies making it difficult for troopers to signal back and forth on manhunts. Troopers out of Durant will be able to type in messages that will link with a satellite sending information straight back to their cars. Within seconds they will be able to access warrants, stolen vehicle tags, and communicate with each other in remote areas.

The OHP based out of Durant works seven counties in southeastern Oklahoma, four of their cars currently have the new technology, the remaining 27 will get in the next few weeks.

OHP also expects the laptop systems help out dispatchers by reducing the amount of radio traffic between troopers and headquarters and freeing up the lines for 911 calls.
