2-17-06 - It was a giant victory for Sherman when Tyson announced they were coming to Sherman a year ago.
Tyson's charter employees have been spending their time at the plant and at Grayson County College for job training. They'll get their first real taste of Tyson Foods next week.
The old Oscar Meyer building is now the Tyson plant. The first product is set to roll off the line next week. But what made the Tyson acquisition so important was the jobs and 200 employees fill the parking lot every morning. Once production gets going, it will become even harder to find a spot. Tyson expects their employee base to double by the time they get their second shift going.
As for the re-construction of Howe Drive, it is expected to be completed by October.
Tyson says that next week's production comes almost right on the schedule predicted when the announcement was made.
