2-19-06 – An explosion and fire forced a Thackerville family to flee their home before flames destroyed it Sunday afternoon.
Pat Seeds said she and her mother heard a loud explosion in their home; then ran outside as flames spread. The fire broke out around noon on Sunday at a home located just north of the school on Highway 77.
Pat Seeds says she was visiting her elderly mother when the fire broke out. The women were not injured, but they lost everything in the home.
It took about thirty minutes for Thackerville, Marietta, Greenville, and Shady Dale fire departments to get the blaze under control.
The cause has not been determined. Firefighters say it is possible an electrical short started the fire.
