2-20-06- Oklahoma State Senator Brian Crain says he is upset that legislative maneuvering may have sidelined his bill to require sex offender notification on drivers’ licenses.
Crain said Monday he’s been told the bill is being reassigned from the Senate Appropriations Committee to the Appropriations Committee on public safety. And Crain says he’s been told the subcommittee that would consider the bill will not meet again before the deadline for getting bills out of committee. But Senator Kenneth Corn says an identical bill he introduced in 2005 could get a hearing in a Senate committee later this week.
Crain says a law is needed because schools and nursing homes require background checks so they do not hire sex offenders. But he says agencies who supply some employees may not know they are employing a sex offender.
