2-22-06- The ripple effect from the closing of the Oklahoma City General Motors plants is starting. Companies that provided supplies to the GM Plant have laid off more than 540 employees now that the automaker ended production.
GM ended production and cut about 2,400 jobs at the Oklahoma City plant Monday night. Now, GM suppliers notifying the state of layoffs include Johnson Controls, Logistics Services, Collins and Aikman and Penske Logistics. The number of workers losing their jobs ranges from 14 at Penske to 287 at Johnson Controls.
A spokesman for Governor Henry says the state has set up a task force to provide job assistance, retraining and education to laid off workers at GM and suppliers.
