Texas Tech Coach Resigning

2-24-06- Texas Tech basketball coach Marsha Sharp is resigning at the end of the season. Friday’s announcement from the 53-year old coach comes near the end of a year marked by her health problems and Tech dropping out of The Associated Press Top 25 in more than a decade.

Sharp became ill when the Lady Red Raiders played Oklahoma in Norman earlier this season and missed the game. OU plays Tech in Lubbock next Wednesday in what will be Sharp's final home game. Sharp has spent 24 seasons at the school in Lubbock, guiding Tech to 16 straight NCAA appearances.

Tech has reached the Elite Eight four times and the Sweet 16 seven times and the Lady Raiders won the national title in 1993 when Sheryl Swoopes led them to a 31-and-3 record. Sharp was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. She's never had a losing season, although Tech is 13 and 12 this year and 8 and 6in the Big 12 with two conference games remaining before the Big 12 tournament in Dallas.
