Local Coach Arrested for DUI

2-28-06 - A coach and teacher in the Milburn school district was arrested Sunday morning for DUI. Tishomingo police arrested 32-year-old Bret Dean Converse for driving under the influence and transporting open containers.

Police say Converse was speeding down Main Street just after midnight. They found two empty beer cans inside the vehicle. Converse used a Breathalyzer that officers say registered at .10 – two-tenths of a point above the legal limit. Upon his arrest, he requested to take a blood test.

On Tuesday, he agreed to deferred prosecution. That means his license will be suspended for 180 days, he'll attend a victims impact panel and take a test to determine whether he has an alcohol abuse problem.

For the last year, Converse has been a social studies and physical education teacher for Milburn High School. He also coaches the middle school and high school basketball teams.

He was back on the job this week.
