With primary elections just a week away, the governor of Texas was in Sherman today endorsing a candidate but facing tough questions himself over the state of education.
Larry Phillips campaign got a boost today as the governor came to town asking voters to re-elect the state representative. But Perry finds himself in a re-election year.
Education has been the hot item issue that's marked Perry’s tenure as governor. With another special session looming on the school finance issue, Perry actually said Texas has done more to improve education than any other state, citing increased test scores and more dollars invested in students.
He said re-electing Larry Phillips would be key to continuing that success. But here locally, many superintendents have made Charlie Williams their candidate saying things aren't so rosy for Texas education.
Today's event lasted about thirty minutes. Both Perry and Larry Phillips spoke before meeting and greeting the crowded room at the Findlay Cultural Center.
