3-1-06 - A wildfire flared up Wednesday afternoon in Bryan County near Bokchito. People in Durant were seeing smoke from grass fires igniting east of town.
The firefighters in Bokchito started working the fire around 1:30 p.m. Firefighters from eight different departments were trying to contain the blaze along Terrell Road off of Highway 22.
The initial fire started in a wooded area, no structures were threatened. About 300 acres were burned in the area northwest of Bokchito. Air support was on standby all after noon, but by 2:45 p.m. firefighters has the fire contained.
