$10 Bills Get a Makeover

3-2-06 - The continuing effort to make U.S. currency tougher to counterfeit means you should soon see new, more colorful ten-dollar bills. Thursday, the redesigned ten was shipped by the Federal Reserve to banks.

The general public should begin seeing it in the next week or so, according to a top official with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The new tens feature shades of orange, yellow and red, joining the new versions of the 20- and 50-dollar bills.

The older notes will be valid currency for as long as they are in circulation. There are no plans to colorize the one-dollar or the five-dollar bill.
