GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- Dozens of acres in southern Grayson County are scorched in a grassfire. It started about 3:00 p.m. Sunday south of Tom Bean off of Knob Hill Road. The fire threatened a home in that area.

As firefighters got that fire under control, it spread north. Tom Bean, Howe, Whitewright and Van Alstyne fire departments responded to the scene.

Authorities say no other structures were threatened.

KUDDOS TO THE VAN ALSTYNE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND ESPECIALLY THE VA POLICE OFFICER THAT WAS OUT THERE IN THE SUV. HE REALLY LOOKED LIKE HE HAD CONTROL OF THE SITUATION. I LIVE DOWN THE ROAD FROM WHERE THE FIRE WAS AND APPRECIATED ALL THE HARD WORK.

It's not fun, Kim, when they're setting off those shrieking rockets and scaring my horses and goats half-to-death.

Actually this was caused by stupidity. Someone placed several sparklers in a mailbox and lit them causing sparks to ignite the high grass around. Have fun wtih fireworks but be careful and don't be stupid with them, this could have been worse as it was feet from a residence. Good job FD's, outstanding teamwork.

Did this have anything to do with idiots setting off fireworks? My own neighbors were still setting off fireworks last night (on the 6th)!
