FANNIN COUNTY, Tex. -- Fannin County will soon be home to a new tractor store, and while ag supply stores are nothing new to the area, this store does business with a twist. It is eco-friendly, the first of its kind, and the owner says it will benefit everyone in the county, as well as the environment.

You've heard the phrase “going green.” That concept is now in Fannin County with the first ever eco-friendly tractor supply store in the entire world.

It might seem like any other new business, but a closer look reveals this is no ordinary agricultural supply store.

"It’s the wave of the future, we want to be as self sufficient within our means as much as we can," owner David Cardile says.

The siding is made of 1,386 melted car engines. There are no external air conditioning units. The building will feature a retention pond for its water supply, and the cooling system is underground.

"It will pull the warm air from inside the building through the ground, which is at the temp of 62 degrees, cool it off and bring it back into the building," builder Dugan Curtis says.

Owner David Cardile has lived in Fannin County for thirty years and says building a green business is not cheap, but the rewards definitely outweigh the cost for the entire area.

"People are looking in this and time for a green business and a green building, they want to be a participant, I think it’s going to bring a lot of people. You're going to see a whole new industry sprout up around that."

Located on this spot will be one of three 60-foot wind turbines around the facility used to power the building, and Cardile says if any extra energy is generated he is willing to sell it to any energy providers that are willing to buy it.

In addition to the turbines, the store will also feature its own bio-diesel, fuel and propane that customers can purchase.

"We need a facility out here for the farmers. The agricultural people out here do not have one facility they can to find all the different variety of products that they need," Bonham mayor Roy Floyd says.

Cardile says he hopes the building is ready to go by the middle of August with a grand opening sometime in September.
