3-10-06 - The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas increased nationwide this week while the number in Oklahoma held steady.
Houston-based Baker Hughes says the number of active rigs in the United States is up by one and the number is unchanged in the Sooner State. Of the other major oil and gas producing states, Texas gained eight rigs and New Mexico one.
Colorado was down five rigs, Louisiana three and Wyoming two. Alaska and California are unchanged. Baker Hughes has kept track of the rig count since 1944.
