GRAYSON COUNTY, TX - The Gunter Fire Department spent much of their Saturday trying to control a grassfire off Maples Road just east of the city.

Around 35 acres were burned. Crews from Collinsville, Tioga, Van Alstyne, Celina and Southmayd worked to shut down the fire by around 6 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Authorities don’t know exactly what caused the fire, but they believe it might have started inside a hay bailer.

In Cooke County, firefighters were on the scene of a grassfire turned structure fire off County Road 211. Authorities say the fire started as a small flare up, but then spread and completely destroyed a vacant home. Collinsville, Gainesville, Oak Ridge, Lake Kiowa and Callisburg all responded to the fire.

Authorities don’t know what caused the fire, but dry conditions might have led to the initial spark. No one was injured.

So, are we on high fire alert? Are there any burn bans in effect?
