3-22-06 - From escapes to assaults, employees at the Bryan County Jail say it is not all their fault and Wednesday they had a solution for county leaders. The jail trust authority meeting Wednesday lasted longer and was much more crowded than what board members are used to.
The eight jailers who were unhappy with their job situation at the jail finally were able to make their voices heard. In addition to the employees getting their word across, jail administrator Deloris Phillips presented the board with a proposed budget that would include doubling the salaries for jail administrators and confinement officers. Board members will take a look at the budget, but any pay raise will likely mean an increase in taxes.
County Commissioner Dewayne Simpson says the jailers need more money and they hope to have an item on the July 25th election that would use tax dollard to do so.
