3-24-06 A freshman at Denison High School has been suspended for 15 days for looking at obscene materials on school computers. However, the student's father is also pointing the finger at the school district for not monitoring students closely enough.
The student's father says he does not allow his son to view obscene images from home and thinks the situation could have been avoided had the school done the same.
Denison ISD spent around $10,000 in software that allows them to block certain websites and monitor student usage. The director of technology, who discovered the obscene images while checking students files, says that websites are always changing and there are ways to circumvent filters.
Students and parents are asked to sign a computer usage agreement at the beginning of the school year that states computers are to be used for educational purposes only.
