3-27-06 - A local woman was beaten with a hammer and held against her will over the weekend and the suspect is a convicted murderer and her husband.
Around 11:00 p.m. Saturday night Deanna and Wendell Ayers were arguing in their home on Wildwood Road. According to sheriff’s reports, Wendell picked up a hammer and struck Deanna in the base of her neck. Wendell then padlocked the door to their home and told her that if she left he would kill her. He let her go on Sunday morning. The sheriff’s officer arrested 59-year old Ayers around 11:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Deanna left the SOSU Medical Center later Monday morning and as for Wendell he is being held in the Bryan County Jail with a bond set at $10,000.
