3-29-06 - More than a half a dozen complaints of identity theft in two weeks have Fannin County officials urging people to be aware. Fannin County Sheriff Kenneth Moore says the majority of the complaints are similar.
The crooks are gaining access to personal information on credit cards and personal checks. But it is how they are getting the information that is somewhat peculiar. The suspects are turning trash into treasure. The crooks are then using those checks to spend at your expense.
The best advice is to shred any paper with personal information before throwing it away.
