AUSTIN (AP) - Texas first lady Anita Perry today announced a
fund to help rebuild the Governor's Mansion after last month's
devastating fire.

The wife of Republican Rick Perry says donations to the
nonprofit Texas Governor's Mansion Restoration Fund will be
tax-deductible.

The first donation was $10,000 from the Heritage Society of
Austin.

Anita Perry says she hopes to work with the Legislature to bring
in state money for the project.

The June 8th fire destroyed much of the historic mansion, which
was unoccupied and undergoing renovations. Investigators blame arson. So far no arrests.

Meanwhile, John Braun of Braun & Butler Construction says
workers have cleared debris off the first floor and put in supports
for the second floor.

Donations can be made online: http://www.texasonline.com

Checks payable to the Texas Governor's Mansion Restoration
Fund can be mailed to:

Hi ya'll, this is Mork. I'm asking for donations to build a retirement home for old "ladies of the evening". I'm going to call it "House of the Happy Hooker". It will be great but I'm short of cash. This is something we can all be proud of. The Governor has lost his mind! I got a donation for ya.

help the gov.rebuild the house. i would like for him to live on the money that most people make. maybe phil graham can help him out. they should be tied together with the rest of all these so called people who think they know what we all need. most of them wouldnt know which way to go up or down. i think they should be striped of all there money, and belongings and made to fend for themselves.pay check to pay check.i dont mean just the gov,but everybody in washington. they should have to live like everybody else.they put there clothes on like we do one leg at atime. they are all phoney'

To -midniteryder--you must be retired and do not have to drive to work. Gas has gone up , old timer! I would rather give if I could to a family who needs it for either medical bills or food!

It shouldn't be just "rich people", me from here. The Governor's Mansion belongs to the people of Texas- that's you and me and everyone else who resides in the Lone Star State. I agree that charity begins at home, but I have no problem kicking in a little- and I'm not a deep-pocketed person either. It shouldn't be just the rich folks who donate- if it is, that's all we'll hear, folks whining about how rich people paid for the Governor's Mansion at the expense of the working man. If you can't donate, hey, no problem, God bless ya, but I'll try to send a little money in.

What about insurance? I lost my house due to a fire and not one person helped me and my family rebuild. Not even red cross. I for one can not afford to help them with the mansion. The governor makes a lot more money than I do. Were is all of the donations when we might need help? I don't see anyone asking for donations to help. I live from pay check to pay check. Plus who can afford to help when all of our money is put into our cars for gas to get back and forth to work and trying to put food on our tables for our families. Everything is going up except for our pay. However I do know what it is like to loose everything that you own and my heart goes out to them.

Weren't they restoring for $10 million- can't that rebuild it? Gov. Perry and his wife are smoking crack or something.

I hope the rich people will make donations for the governor's mansion rebuild. I for one cannot afford to donate, but thanks for asking.
