ADA, Okla. -- A man who drove his pickup truck through the entrance of a southeast Oklahoma school has been found not guilty by reason of insanity by a Pontotoc County judge.
Richard Earl Melton was accused of driving into Vanoss High School, then backing up and driving into the building again, causing doors and walls to collapse, in December 2006. Classes were in session at the time, but no injuries were reported.
Melton had two teenage sons in the school at the time.
Melton now will be sent to a mental health facility where it will be determined if he needs permanent supervised care.
