4-5-06 - Katie Couric has confirmed what she calls "the worst kept secret in America" that she's leaving NBC’s Today Show. But it took some prodding by Matt Lauer before she'd say where she's going.
Only after Lauer asked her about her new job did Couric come out and say she'd be anchoring the CBS Evening News and reporting for 60 Minutes. She'll be the first woman to anchor a network weekday evening newscast alone.
Her announcement came 15 years to the day after she started at Today. She's the longest serving anchor in the show's history. A source says Couric turned down $20 million a year to stay at NBC. The source says Couric will make about the same at CBS as she's getting now, somewhere between $13-15 million.
