4-5-06 - People in and around Ardmore and Lone Grove felt a large rumble around 1:50pm Wednesday. Initial reports are that buildings shook for several seconds - what felt like a minor earthquake or large explosion.
The Emergency Operations Center in Ardmore says it is likely a small earthquake. Calls to the Oklahoma Geological Survey determined that the earthquake measured 3.0 on the Richter scale. The U.S. Geological Survery says the epicenter was 8 miles southwest of Lone Grove in Carter County.
So far, no damage or injuries have been reported.
Some callers to KXII have suggested that the rumbling was connected to drilling in the Lone Grove area , but the USGS says that is highly unlikely.
