4-7-06 - A Texas woman who admitted cutting off her baby girl's arms is headed to a state mental hospital for 30 days. Dena Schlosser could be released after that, if authorities believe she is no longer a threat to herself or to others.
But her lawyer says she'll probably be in hospitalized for many years. Schlosser has been found not guilty by reason of insanity in the death of her baby, after a second trial in which psychiatrists testified that she suffered from religious delusions and other mental problems.
Defense attorneys told the judge that Schlosser had a brain tumor that could have caused hallucinations. At her first trial, the jury deadlocked on a murder charge and both sides agreed a judge alone should hear the second case.
Schlosser could have faced the death penalty.
