BENNINGTON, Okla. -- The rural town of Bennington, Oklahoma, is coping with no water for a second day. Hundreds of residents in Pennington are relying on bottled water and out of town friends for basic necessities like showers and cleaning dishes.
The bathroom sink is being used for storage at the Milan house. When you turn the knob on the faucet, nothing comes out. The same thing goes for the shower.
"I got my last load of laundry done when they cut the water off," resident Danielle Milan says.
City officials say one of the wells has been acting up all year, and costs thousands of dollars to fix each time.
When it caused problems last week, they decided to shut off service to make permanent replacements. But now, the back up line has a leak too, leaving the entire town high and dry.
"Our hands are kind of tied. If we could go out there and put a rope on it and pout water out of it we'd to it but we cant, we're just at a standstill." water superintendent Gerry Maislip says.
The Choctaw Nation donated a trailer full of water, and city leaders are handing out gallons to residents every night until the service is back to normal.
"We've been going to my daughter’s house and taking showers, so it's been a little rough but we're making it through it," Bennington resident Leola Hamby says.
Most families are either going out to eat or have jugs of bottled water in the kitchen for cooking as the town waits for when they can turn the knob and water rushes out instead.

Residents can come to the fire department every night from 6 to 9 p.m. to receive gallons of water. If you can't drive to the station call 580-775-3653 and someone will bring it to you. Crews expect the service to be restored by Saturday at the latest.
