Benefit for Injured Love Co. VFF

4-13-06 - People in the small Love County community of Leon will come together next week to help out one of their own injured in a fire.

Jerry Porter is a volunteer firefighter in Leon and was conducting a controlled burn on his ranch north of town last March when the fire got out of control. The fire engulfed Jerry and his tractor giving him second and third degree burns on his legs, arms, and head. Jerry was able to run back to the house for help and was eventually taken to the Baptist Burn Center in Oklahoma City.

Jerry and his wife do not have health insurance and he is the only source of income for the family, but he says they are going to make it through this rough time.

The benefit for Jerry will be at the Leon Community Center on Saturday, April 22nd.
