DURANT, OK -- A toddler hit by a car in Durant Tuesday night.
Police say the three year-old boy was apparently standing on a curb on North 3rd Avenue when he stepped out into traffic.

The child was hit by a sedan and thrown 40 feet. He was taken to MCSO with head trauma and other injuries, he was then taken by life flight to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Police say the little boy is in critical but stable condition. His name is not being released.

A chaplain was on the scene consoling the neighbors and the driver involved in the accident.

As someone who drives down that street on a regular basis, it does not suprise me that this happened. I have always seen a lot of children in that area playing outside in the street with no adults in sight. So, I hope that this is a wake up call to this family and many others. Please keep an eye on your children. I have a three year old also and I know that they are hard to keep up with. But you have to be with them. I am sorry for what happened, but like I said it was bound to happen. Children must be supervised by ADULTS at all times, not other children.

My thoughts and prayers go to this little boy, his family, and the driver. And, Fozzy, I find it really sad that your main focus is trying to convince everyone that God does not exist. Have you even thought about this little boy at all, or is this just all about you?

Posted by: Kelli Location: Sherman on Aug 9, 2008 at 11:56 AM
FOZZY,you are a pathetic person, I see your name on here all the time talking trash. God did show up for this child, he is still alive...am i right? We were given brains for a reason. God does not make our decisions for us or allow bad things to happen. He gives us the tools, it is up to us to control our destiny. Maybe you should spend a little less time on here being rude and a little more time in church!!! I have three children of my own and I know how quickly they can get away from you. My thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this ACCIDENT!! I'LL PRAY FOR YOU AS WELL FOZZY BECAUSE YOU NEED IT THE MOST!!

Posted by: Natalie Location: Durant on Aug 9, 2008 at 10:15 AM
GOD Bless this family, the parent and all the children and the driver! God loves all his children and does not MAKE things like this happen. Although the devil is always putting sadness in our lives, it's these times that we MUST turn to GOD for love and guidance. We all must come together and pray for this family. People like Fozzy that say bad things about these parents and GOD really need to find GOD in their own lives because the devil has obviously got a hold on you! GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!

Say a prayer for the idiot parents that GOD may give them a lightening strike of common sense to watch there kids and to teach them to stay out of the road. And pray that GOD strikes down those that make excuses about accidents happening because they are sorry parents and have no sense about teaching their kids about safety!

I am constantly amazed at the comments that are left in response to such tragic situations. My prayers are with the young child that is injured, the parents and the driver of the car. May God Bless each and every one.

There were two more kids in the street and the little one ran out to get a ball and the driver did not see the little one until it was too late and there are no chargers against the driver

Everyone on here is so perfect. I don't know this family but I will be praying for them and the child.

Posted by: VKJ Location: Bonham on Aug 7, 2008 at 02:46 PM
As we know children are precious and our prayers are with these family. As we all know children are fast little ones. Maybe the mother was on the front porch or in the front yd. with her child. Maybe the driver wasn't giving her full attention to driving,(looking off or on the cell phone) as it does happen. God be with all in this difficult time. Please bring this precious little boy through this time of need.

Amy, yes I do have kids three of them and they are boys, and I know one thing, if these parents would teach their kids not to go near the street things like this would not happen, if I ever seen my kids go near the street I would call them back and then wear their little tail ends out, but now days you younger parents don't believe in spanking your kids that is why they are like they are today.

Posted by: someone Location: Oklahoma on Aug 7, 2008 at 06:18 AM
I'm keeping this child in my prayers and hopefully this will be a wake up call to all parents of toddlers to watch them closer. If your child isn't in a fenced yard they can't escape from then they shouldn't ever be outside without a parent. I'm also praying for the driver who has to be suffering as well.

My thoughts and Prayers go out to the parents of this little boy, "accidents Happen" and the parents could have been right there with him who kows the real story

Posted by: Erin Location: Denison on Aug 6, 2008 at 05:05 PM
I would just like to say because I am the mother of two that when a child gets hurt it does not always mean it is because of neglect. Accidents happen. I am praying for this child, the parents and the driver.

Posted by: Angela Location: Durant on Aug 6, 2008 at 04:51 PM
MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS, WHERE WERE THIS CHILD'S PARENTS? BUT THEN I REALIZED THIS IS A 3 YEAR OLD, AND BEING THE MOTHER OF 2, I KNOW THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY FROM YOU QUICKLY. SO INSTEAD OF DWELLING ON THE NEGLEGENCE OF THE PARENTS (WHEATHER IT WAS THE CAUSE OR NOT), WE SHOULD ALL BE FOCUSING ON PRAYER FOR THIS BABY & HIS FAMILY.

Posted by: Me Location: Denison on Aug 6, 2008 at 03:26 PM
#2 comment: If we knew where the "parents" were then we wouldn't have this story on the news would we?

Posted by: Lynn Location: Sherman on Aug 6, 2008 at 02:57 PM
Is this a comments page, or a " we don't like what you said so we're not gonna post it page?" You are so biased as to what is posted.

Posted by: TJ Location: Antlers on Aug 6, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Exactly what I was thinking, where in the devil were the parents or caretaker????

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 6, 2008 at 01:58 PM
prayers wouldnt be needed if someone responsible had been watching after and protecting the child. the accident would have never happened.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 6, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Doesn't anyone teach their childen to not play in (or around) the street anymore?

Posted by: Tammy Location: cartwright on Aug 6, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Where was the child's parent's all the article said was a chaplain and neighbors. I find it odd that a 3 year old child is anywhere by a street alone. I witnessed a child on my way to college out by the street screaming and no one was around and the front door wide open. I circled around by the time I got back the child was no where. Doesn't people realize children are precious and they need care and supervision?

Posted by: me Location: here on Aug 6, 2008 at 11:15 AM
I have a 3 year old. very beautiful girl. I NEVER let her out of my sight when she's outside playing we live in the country with 18 wheelers running up and down the highway all day. how could you let your child get that close to a curb and not tell him to get away from it. if my child even starts heading toward the highway from the back yard I tell her NO!! she turns around and starts the long questions of why not, lol, but she doesn't go. God Bless this child. such a sad situation.

Posted by: Barb Location: Ok. on Aug 6, 2008 at 10:28 AM
If they would get rid of the soaps and throw away the paper back books they could watch their children. so sad children especially babies aren't watch close

Posted by: king Location: bryan co on Aug 6, 2008 at 09:43 AM
I have a 3 year old too, and I know how fast they can get away. I hope everything gets better and he has a speedy recovery, and for the parents, pad lock them doors if you have to, they are pretty smart.

Posted by: anonymous on Aug 6, 2008 at 09:43 AM
Everyone should pray for the child, but the parents need to be held responsible for not watching their child also. A 3-year-old should not even be outside in the front yard on a busy street when it is dark. I don't let my 11-year-old or 7-year-old outside alone when there are a lot of cars around anywhere!! Thank goodness we live outside of town with no traffic down our road. Hopefully the poor little boy will survive his injuries and be able to lead a normal life.

Posted by: Melissa Keen Location: Durant on Aug 6, 2008 at 09:38 AM
My prayers are with all involved.May this baby make a full recovery.

Posted by: michelle Location: durant on Aug 6, 2008 at 09:29 AM
they were probably inside getting high like everyone in durant does.............oh yeah except you..right!!!!!

Posted by: steve Location: durant on Aug 6, 2008 at 08:59 AM
could some one tell me why there is some much coruption in durant. the police make up rules as they go alone. if you try to do the right thing, you are harrassed. if you go to the d.a.'s office, you are told you cant talk to them. why are the people of durant standing for this. they can put you in jail without being read your rights, or even going to court, do we not have rights, and when we contact the news, they are so used to the wrong in durant, its not news worthy. do we have to have another michael st.claire, do get poeple do wake up. know what he did was wrong, but we all have a breaking point. ???

Until last week, I drove down 3rd Street several times a week. I was driving down one day last week and 2 young children stepped out in front of me. I slammed on my brakes and by the grace of God, the children were not hit. I was driving 20 miles per hour because of the number of children I have seen in this area. A girl who looked about 12 or 13 who were with the small children actually flipped me off. I alway see many kids in this area but have never seen any adults. My prayers are with this 3 yr old.

Posted by: Amy on Aug 6, 2008 at 08:34 AM
Yep, of course the very first comment on here is a judgemental one about how horrible and irresponsible the parents must be... probably made by someone who has never had children! I have a 2-year-old and she is FAST, she's constantly darting everywhere and even when I am holding her hand she can pull away from my grip very quickly and dash away!

Posted by: Lynn Location: Sherman on Aug 6, 2008 at 08:31 AM
Has anyone else noticed this seems to be a trend? Watch your children people! It only takes a second for a child to dart away.

Posted by: Me Location: Durant on Aug 6, 2008 at 07:47 AM
The parents were less than twenty feet away. This is a three year old we are talking about maybe we should all lock our kids up in the house and tell them they must stay there until they are atleast mature enough to know better...get a life...say a prayer

Posted by: Fozzy Location: Ardmore on Aug 6, 2008 at 07:45 AM
Say a prayer? for what? The "god" that supposedly loves everyone allowed this child to be hit by a car.. might as well worry about the parents locations because god was obviously asleep at the switch again.. OR caused this kid to be hit by the car.

Posted by: Leisha Location: Durant, OK on Aug 6, 2008 at 07:38 AM
The child's mother was on the porch and he ran into the road to get the football that he was playing with. The parents or the driver are not to blame for this. This is a very very sad tragedy. I know the mother and child and she is very upset. Please say a prayer for this family.

too many speeders on that road, no stop signs for most of the way. I used to live on that road, city needs more 4 way stops.

Posted by: Mark Location: Carter County on Aug 6, 2008 at 03:39 AM
Where were the parents? Sitting in the house watching TV I bet. Same thing happened here to a little boy and the guy that did it got off free and is coaching in another town now! Carter County Sheriff failed to do his job and let him go!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: sherman on Aug 6, 2008 at 02:58 AM
Or how about say a pray and then wander where this little kids parents were?????

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 6, 2008 at 12:27 AM
Sherman at 11:25 Because on thing if the parents had been there this accident would never had happen in the first place, when as we has parents are we going to step up and start taking responsibility for our kids and what they do and where they are at, no you can't watch the 24/7 but there should have been a parent right there whne that child was on the curb. We all need to keep this child and the family in our prays

Posted by: Re:LF Location: Sherman on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:25 PM
Why dont you not worry about where this childs parents were, and say a prayer for the 3 year old.

Posted by: LF Location: Grayson on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:12 PM
So WHERE were this child's parents when he was on the curb??? Such a tragedy, too many parents don't watch their children nearly closely enough.
