4-14-06 - Friday was a very “Good Friday” for a local Denison family. After spending the last year in Iraq a soldier will be at the dinner table on Easter Sunday.
Back in February of 2005, Jason Whitley got an unexpected phone call from the army telling him he would have to leave behind his wife and two young children. Friday he was reunited with those children, but it is the children of Iraq that left one of the lasting impressions on this father.
Whitley was the Easter present to his family after being in Najaf, Iraq for a year. While separated from his family, Jason provided security for the convoy’s and trucks of the 115th Maintenance Company out of Utah and saw first hand the fingerprints of the United States and the Iraqi people, many of them children like his own.
The Whitley family says they received tons of help from friends and family over the last year and now that Jason is home, they are looking forward to a barbeque and Easter egg hunt on Sunday.
