SHERMAN, Tex. -- A 72-year-old Sherman man with a history of sexually abusing children was arrested Thursday for indecency with a child.

Police say Jerry Brewer knew his victim, a young girl. Detectives began investigating brewer on Wednesday after allegations surfaced that he was inappropriately touching children in his neighborhood.

Brewer was convicted in 2003 of eight counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact for the same type activity. He had been nicknamed "The Candyman" because he was known to lure young girls with candy.

Brewer is currently being held at the Grayson County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

this man needs to be executed right along with the man who molested mine children, but our justice system basically allows you to molest children but done have drugs with you then you will get tome for that. karma is a witch and he will get what is coming to him

If so many of the neighbors were aware this man was supposed to stay in his yard and not approach children, then why weren't the police called before it ever happened? If this guy were in my neighborhood, they would be investigating an arson case. I am not blaming the mom and surely not the child, I feel this could have been prevented.

Absolutely, this child had every right to play outside. It's no one's fault but the nasty old geezer! Just a gentle reminder to parents to know who lives in your neighborhood. Look up offenders and show the house and mug shot to your kids. It's easier to explain why this person is to be avoided, rather than after the fact if they've been molested.

The guy gets caught, goes to jail, and then gets judged by his own peers. He goes to jail or prison. He gets out and does it again. He gets caught, goes to jail or prison, gets out and does it again. So on and so on and so on... It's not the fault of the kids, it's not the fault of the DA, it's the fault of the peers and the judge that sent him in for only a short time. He did his time and was let out. Maybe the court should have lengthened his time????

Sherry; people like you is the reason he isnt in jail after the 03 incident. His bond isnt high enough,if he gets out you might be his next victim, but you would probably like it,sounds like you need a little attention, follow him around and you will most lokely get it.

Those who blame the mother need to realize that this girl has gone through alot because of this, and she's at an age where she has read this story on this website and some of the comments early on and could easily read it again now, and you all blaming everyone but the molestor is just wrong and puts her in a position to make her think she did wrong for being in her own yard and having an old man stalk her. It is not her mothers fault, it is definately not her fault, and you idiots that want to sit here and blame everyone but the molester needs to walk a mile in their shoes. I am ashamed of you people that posted that junk. Yes I am the #2 comment at the bottom under anon, and amazed at the stupidity of some of the posts here blaming them and making them feel worse for what an old man did. It has done alot to this family. So please think before you post, and don't post stupid things that are going to put a child into a mindset that it's her fault!

Aunt of victem... you are so right. I feel bad for what she's gone through but at least he's finall back where he belongs. Those that blame the mother in any way must have no children of their own. We have rights too and we DO have the right to be in our OWN yard!! I wish that all sex offenders had to put a sign in the yard but as far as I know that's not a requirement.

All the kids in the neighborhood knew what this old fart looked like. How can this happen again? Parents need to be more alert!

Posted by: Dookey Location: Shermboro on Aug 18, 2008 at 03:58 PM
I have never understood how ANYONE could even be aroused by a young kid, or an elderly person. Someone should have beat the crap outta this dude loooong ago. Watch your back in the pen, you old, nasty perv! They will getcha!!!

For everybody doggin Joe Brown: How often have you served in any capacity for any community service agency? How many times have you sat in a courtroom and watched while a JURY handed down sentences like this in spite of a prosecutors best efforts? How many times have you tried your best to get out of jury duty while someone else actually served on one? Joe Brown is the best DA we've had in years! Get real!

This neighborhood is Constitution Village. Candy man lives on Utah ... This old guy still walks around the neighborhood! Even after being accused last time. My kids knew to come in when he was out walking. They knew where he lived and exactly what he looked like! What a sick old geezer! Once a pediphile always a pediphile!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: denison on Aug 18, 2008 at 11:44 AM
This man used to come in my place of employment and give us girls candy. He gave us all the creeps then, and that was several years before his first trip to jail. And Sherry and Mommy: don't blame the innocent child, parents shouldn't have to watch their children 24/7 in their own yards. I hope they throw away the key this time!!

Posted by: MOMMY Location: everywhere on Aug 18, 2008 at 10:59 AM
Shame on the mother too. She should keep better eye on her children and know who they are talking to. I think a child offender should have a permanant sign in their yard alerting all. If they don't like it tell them they chose the title.

Grandpa?!?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 18, 2008 at 09:20 AM
They don't have room in the jails for pervs like him because the DA is too busy filling the cells with pot smoking hippies instead. I for one think the laws are a little jacked up don't you? let the small offenders go and make more room. How many more people/kids have to suffer? I don't care if the hippies want to fry their brains, but I do care if my kid is being stalked by the "candyman!"

No joke this guy came into where I work and smacked me on the deriair once it creeped me out.. Makes sense now I guess hope he rots

you know---for every person who is convicted of child sexual abuse ---they should be casterated, these people keep doing this because we let them!!!slap them on the hand and let them go!! shame on us!! these kids forever changed,we want rights protected, but for who ? not the kids. preditors have no rights, they gave them up when they took the rights of innocencent children.

for all the critics of the justice system, police and authorities, stop watching Judge Judy immediately, get up off you couch, and volunteer at any local shelter, advocacy center or police department. you will understand reality differs from how you want the world to be.....

Eight counts in '03? The county lets the pedophiles slide while bustin the hell outta the hot check writers. Good job county attorney.. I don't care if the charges were from 1903, he shouldn't have been given the chance to do this again. It's ridiculous. But that's how it works.. Hope you get your raise by the way Mr. Brown.... Should have an intern working on more important things than your own self advancement.

Posted by: aunt of the victim Location: sherman on Aug 17, 2008 at 01:48 PM
This is my niece this happened to and sherry just so you know her mother was there, this man isnt even supposed to leave his yard, and when kids come outside he is supposed to go in the house which he doesnt do. In this case he stalked my niece and went into her yard and did what he did, and this isnt the first time that he has done this to children. when i was little my grandmother warned me about this pervert and not to go outside if he was outside. so for anyone to judge my niece needs to shut up. she is the victim here and it isnt her fault that this perv targeted her for his next victim. anyone that molests a child does not deserve to run the streets especially on eight previous accounts. i dont care how old or younge you are a sex offender is a sex offender. this man doesnt even keep a sign in his yard warning people. my niece did not go into his yard or take candy from him and as soon as he touched her she when into the house and told her mother, she did the right thing.

These types of stories make me so mad! This man should have never been let out! The Authorities are too busy harassing normal hard working people. How many times have you been pulled over for going 1 or 2 miles over the speed limit, searched, or otherwise HARASSED by local police? If they were doing their jobs, this man would not be threatening our children! To PROTECT and SERVE! Not HARASS and OPPRESS!! If they cannot do their jobs, I say get someone in there who can!!!

i was wondering the same thing. why was this man out, these sex offenses should require longer jail sentencing as well as better monitoring. thank god he is off the streets. hope he will stayed locked up and maybe he can get molested in jail too. he is obviously a sick individual where is the three strikes your out law why can't we apply that to him joe brown get him do your job.

Posted by: Victor Location: sherman on Aug 16, 2008 at 10:44 PM
All he had to do was be his self and get a nice wife or something. He could touch her all he wanted provided she'd let him instead of luring in little girls with candy... come on all you need is a brian to figure that out...

Posted by: joana Location: ardmore on Aug 16, 2008 at 10:01 PM
he should have been sentenced for the remainder of his life in 2003. These sick men DO NOT rehabilitate and should NEVER be out in society.

Posted by: JW Location: Bonham on Aug 16, 2008 at 09:50 PM

Sherman PD has done somethign EVERY time - it's the court system that keeps letting them out.

Posted by: Tiffany Location: Sherman on Aug 16, 2008 at 10:08 AM
What a sick excuse of human skin. It's clear he never learned his lesson. He needs to rot in jail. If he doesn't spend time in jail then there is something really wrong with this world. Just makes me almost throw up. How anyone could get something out of hurtting a child I will never understand. Oh how I would love to be on that jury. lol

Posted by: MR. X Location: TX on Aug 16, 2008 at 09:42 AM
LOCK HIM UP FOREVER.

Authorities - you are partly to blame for continuing to let this man run around ruining children's lives - shame on you! He should have been put away a long time ago. Statistics time and again have shown that child molesters are the hardest criminals to cure. In fact, most counselors will tell you they can never be cured, that the only way to deal with them is to keep them away from children, period. The judge who gave this monster the opportunity to be released early and/or not incarcerated the last time should have his/her name also printed in the paper. Then the judge should be removed from office.

Many years ago I used to go to the same church as this man. He was a wonderful man, husband, and father. He was also a Christian. I wonder if he is suffering from some sort of mental disease now... maybe Alzheimer's. I feel like if that is the case, he would be the first to be horrified at what he has done. I'm not saying that that makes the victims feel any better, just that I don't believe if he was in his right mind this would ever have happened. I feel sorry for all involved including his family.

$300,000 bond is to much.guy's who are alot younger than he is and that have done the same thing ,their bond is'nt that much.anon maybe your grilfriend's niece's mother should of been watching her daugther better.

Posted by: mamma Location: fannin on Aug 15, 2008 at 07:50 PM
It seems to me that grayson county is not taking child molesting very serious #1 letting a convicted child molester go out for a smoke before sentencing but the big thing waiting 9 yrs to have a trial then giving him a chance to run and now this 8 counts and convicted i guess all the molesters will be moving to grayson county you guys need a D A like fannin county .
