SOSU Receives Large Donation

4-28-06 - Checks signed Friday morning gave Southeastern University the largest single gift in its history.

There are already residence halls named after the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes at SOSU, but a record setting gift only further cements the commitment that both tribes are making to education. Choctaw Chief Greg Pyle and Chickasaw Governor Bill Anoatubby each signed checks for $350,000 made out to the university.

The $700,000 gift is the largest in SOSU history and will help build the new $14.5 million student union. The Choctaw portion will fund a new lecture hall while the Chickasaw’s will support a computer lounge. The 60,000 square foot building is expected to be one students can call their own.

Friday’s gift goes a long way in helping the university reach its goal of $2.8 million in private funds for the student union. The new student union is expected to be complete by next fall.
