New Look for Bearcat Stadium

5-1-06 - It has been in the works for months and Monday the clock began ticking for more than $1 million in renovations to Sherman’s Bearcat Stadium.

If you are used to missing half of the game because you are standing in line for the restrooms on Friday nights, the wait is over as the stadium will go from five to 22 stalls, and it is just one of the improvements being thrown into the 64-year-old stadium.

Sherman ISD met Monday afternoon to award the contract to Plyler Construction. The renovations include expanding the restroom facilities and bringing them up to code with proper handicap accessibility. The concessions will be given a more modern look, additional concrete parking will laid on the west side, and fancier fencing will replace the old fencing. The district says it is sure to change the feeling under the Friday night lights.

The last time Bearcat Stadium was touched about was about ten years ago when a few coats of paint were applied. Construction is set to begin within the next few weeks, and the project should be complete before next football season starts.
