SHERMAN, Tex. -- With the future of the low-cost Sherman daycare possibly closing its doors, one facility is stepping in to help out.
The Key Learning Child Development Center has a simple goal - provide quality childcare at an affordable price. Director Buffy Hanson says parents often face hard decisions during tough times.
"Do you want to work or do you want to send your kids to daycare? Because I mean, sometimes you are going to work just to pay your daycare bill and that was something we really wanted to get away from," Hanson says.
Recently, Key Learning received state approval to increase the number of children they care for from 95 to more than 150. Workers at the center say it is especially important since the Sherman Daycare could close.
Children as young as 18 months, and school age kids receive quality care in a safe place. Parent Nicole Murphy sends her son to pre-school at the center and is thankful for the opportunity.
"Daycare across the board is so expensive, so it gives him a good education without worrying about it being overly expensive," she says.
Experienced teachers work with children, providing daycare and faith-based pre-school. Each child receives two hot meals and a snack. School-age kids can even receive pick-up and drop-off service. Hanson says it is a labor of love for the staff.
"They love what they do, really high quality of work, and we just stay on a strict budget, but at the same time, we offer everything that some of the higher end daycares are offering."
Key Learning accepts child care service assistance. The facility still has about 40 spots available.
