DURANT,OK -- $275 million Choctaw Casino construction is set to create almost 500 new jobs, and help the local economy.

"This has been years in the making," said James Dry.

An expansion totaling $275 million dollars includes a new restaurant inside, an outdoor restaurant near the new Oasis Pool and several new entertainment venues built around the resort.

Guest Service Director James Dry says the new additions will be huge.

"We're adding another new hotel tower; a new conference space that we're really excited about," said Dry.

Dry says a new state of the art, Las Vegas designed concert venue will replace the current event center; which its future is still undetermined.

A four-screen movie theater and bowling alley are also under construction.

Dry says they want to turn the casino and resort into a prime family-friendly destination.

"If you want to gamble on the machines, or if you just want to come out and enjoy some good food, this will be the true destination in Southeastern Oklahoma," said Dry.

"This is quickly becoming that destination that we want it to be," said Janet Reed.

Durant Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Janet Reed says the expansion will help bring more growth and tax dollars to the area.

"It expands the entire scope and growth of a community when you have a resort of this size that impacts a whole southeast part of Oklahoma," said Reed.

Dry says when the expansion is complete, it'll create 400 to 500 new jobs.

They plan to hold several job fairs next Spring to hire employees in time for the expansion's completion.

The expansion along with the venues are set to open next summer in July and August.
