05-05-06 - The trial of a Sherman attorney had the attention of the legal community all week, but other eyes were watching as well. And now the defense may appeal the conviction.
It was not the fact that Gary Corley was an attorney that brought members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving to his trial, but it was his offense. They say the verdict sends the message loud and clear that you cannot get behind the wheel drunk.
Defense attorney David Stagner says he suspects ties between the witness and DA Joe Brown. The defense has not decided whether to appeal. But whether Corley serves time or not, for MADD, a guilty verdict speaks for itself.
Corley now faces a punishment ranging from probation to ten years in prison and his sentencing will take place in the next two or three weeks.
